Photo One
I selected this photo because it is very appealing and has a unique contrast of color and shape. Compositionally, there is lots of texture and negative space that makes the image dynamic. I took the picture with my camera angled slightly above the wagon wheel and I was fairly close to the subject to capture the detail in the wood. The shutter speed was set to around 1/125 because everything is in focus and there is a large depth of field. When taking the photo, I considered the rule of thirds because I tried to line the gold chain up with the second vertical line on the grid. The ISO was set to 200 and the white balance was set to direct sun. This photo was taken for the line and shape assignment and I like it because it has a very rustic and artistic feel. |
Photo Two
This image was taken for the line and shape assignment. In photo shop, I adjusted the levels to correct the exposure. I choose this photo because it has many leading lines and negative space that create contrast. I focused my camera on the graffiti to make it the focal point of the photo. There is constant repetition of triangles and diagonals. This photo was taken from a lower perspective because I had to angle the camera upwards. I took this picture on my phone, so the ISO and white balance were set on automatic. Looking at this photo, the compositional element that is most apparent is the negative space between the metal framing of the bridge. |
Photo Three
This photo was chosen because it possesses a very shallow depth of field. The image was taken with a very low f-stop to create blur in the background while keeping the foreground in focus. The ISO was kept at around 800 and the white balance was set to incandescent. The photo was framed so that the camera in focus was in the first third of the picture. There is high contrast in color between the black cameras and the white background. I was very close when I took this image so that I could capture the small and subtle details of the camera. This photo was taken for the aperture assignment and I like it because it has a compelling subject matter. |
Photo Four
I selected this photo because it has many compositional aspects that make it a captivating picture. This image was taken for the portrait assignment. In photo shop, I adjusted the levels and converted it to black and white. There is nice contrast between the grey values in the picture. The light source was shining on the right side of her face, thus creating a shadow on the left side of her face. The girl in the photo seems to be surprised about something behind the photographer. The ISO was set at around 1600 and the white balance was on incandescent. I framed the photo so that it would follow the rule of thirds. The model is in the first third. There is lots of negative space sounding the model. While taking this photo, I focused the camera on her eyes to make them the focal point of picture. |
Photo Five
Photo number five, is a picture that I took at my friend's house in Maine. The sun was setting, leaving the tops if the trees illuminated. This photo was used for the landscape assignment. There is lots of texture in the leaves in the foreground and in the trees on the mountain in the background. The photo has a large depth of field because everything is in focus. The ISO and white balance were set on automatic because I took this picture in my phone. There is repetition of the mountain in the photo due to the reflexion in the lake. I purposely framed the image so that the leaves of a nearby tree would take up the top and bottom right hand corners of the photo. I love this photo because it captures the beauty and simplicity of nature. |
Photo Six
Photo number six was taken when I went to New Hampshire last summer. It follows the rule of thirds because the peaks of the mountains follow the top horizontal line on the grid. There is really strong contrast between the light and dark values on the picture. There is also lots of texture in the image. The ISO and white balance were set on automatic because I used my phone. There is a large depth of field because everything in the picture is focus. This picture was taken for the landscape assignment and I love this photo because it reminds me of the breath taking view I saw while standing on the cliff to take the picture. |
