WRITTEN NARRATIVE
Write a statement explaining your final photo essay in complete sentences.
The photos I took for my photo essay were taken in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. I selected this place because of its diversity and because it reminds me of all the incredible experiences I had with my family. Through photography, I intended to portray Mexico's natural beauty and unique culture. Visually, all of my images have very vibrant and sharp colors, which help to unify the images. I choose the palm to start my photo essay to welcome the viewer into the rest of my photo sequence. Just like the warm weather and palm trees welcomed my family and I as we left the airport, I want to welcome you to browse through and enjoy my photo essay. To sequence the rest of my photos, I tried to separate the photos by color and orientation. To end my essay, I used a picture of a door to resemble a passage way out of my photo essay. My two favorite photos would have to be photo number four (the mural) and photo number ten (the door) because they have very strong compositional elements. Photo number four follows the rule of thirds, has lots of contrasting shapes, and many leading lines along with very vibrant colors. Photo number ten has very nice color contrast. There are a variety of shapes and there is lots of texture in the wood of the door. Through color, texture, and pattern, my photos illustrate the exciting culture of Mexico.
